About Investment





Investment or investing[British English] and [American English], respectively. is a term with several closely-related meanings in [business management], [finance] and [economics], related to [Saving (money)] or deferring [Consumption (economics)]. An [asset] is usually purchased, or equivalently a deposit is made in a bank, in hopes of getting a future [return (finance)] or interest from it. The word originates in the Latin "vestis", meaning garment, and refers to the act of putting things (money or other claims to resources) into others' pockets.

Types of investment The term "investment" is used differently in economics and in finance. Economists refer to a real investment (such as a machine or a house), while financial economists refer to a financial asset, such as money that is put into a bank or the market, which may then be used to buy a real asset.

Business Management The investment decision (also known as [capital budgeting]) is one of the fundamental decisions of business management: managers determine the assets that the business enterprise obtains. These assets may be physical (such as buildings or machinery), intangible (such as [patents], software, goodwill), or financial (see below). The manager must assess whether the [net present value] of the investment to the enterprise is positive; the net present value is calculated using the enterprise's marginal [cost of capital].

A business might invest with the goal of making profit. These are called marketable [securities] or passive investment. Hence, a company can have none, some or total control over the investee 's strategic, operating, investing and financing decisions. Economics In [economics], investment is the production per unit time of [Good (economics and accounting)] which are not consumed but are to be used for future production. Examples include tangibles (such as building a [railroad] or [factory]) and intangibles (such as a year of schooling or on-the-job training). In [measures of national income and output], gross investment I is also a component of [Gross domestic product] (GDP), given in the formula GDP = C + I + G + NX. I is divided into non-residential investment (such as factories) and residential investment (new houses). "Net" investment deducts [depreciation] from gross investment. It is the value of the net increase in the capital stock per year.

Investment, as production over a period of time ("per year"), is not [capital (economics)]. The time dimension of investment makes it a [Stock vs. flow (economics)]. By contrast, capital is a stock, that is, an accumulation measurable at a point in time (say December 31st).

Investment is often modeled as a function of income and interest rates, given by the relation I = f(Y, r). An increase in income encourages higher investment, whereas a higher interest rate may discourage investment as it becomes more costly to borrow money. Even if a firm chooses to use its own funds in an investment, the interest rate represents an [opportunity cost] of investing those funds rather than loaning them out for interest.

Finance In [finance], investment is buying [security (finance)] or other monetary or paper (financial) assets in the [money market]s or [capital market]s, or in fairly [market liquidity] real assets, such as [gold], [real estate], or collectibles. [Saving] within personal finance refers to money put aside, normally on a regular basis. This distinction is important, as [investment risk] can cause a capital loss when an investment is realized, unlike [saving (money)] where the more limited risk is cash devaluing due to [inflation].

In many instances the terms saving and investment are used interchangeably, which confuses this distinction. For example many [deposit account]s are labeled as investment accounts by banks for marketing purposes. Whether an asset is a saving(s) or an investment depends on where the money is invested: if it is cash then it is savings, if its value can fluctuate then it is investment.

Real estate In [real estate], investment is money used to purchase [property] for the sole purpose of holding or leasing for income and where there is an element of capital risk. Unlike other economic or financial investment, real estate is purchased. The seller is also called a Vendor and normally the purchaser is called a Buyer.

Residential Real Estate The most common form of real estate investment as it includes the property purchased as peoples houses. In many cases the Buyer does not have the full purchase price for a property and must engage a lender such as a Bank, Finance company or Private Lender. Different countries have their individual normal lending levels, but usually they will fall into the range of 70-90% of the purchase price. Against other types of real estate, residential real estate is the least risky.

Commercial Real Estate Commercial real estate is the owning of a small building or large warehouse a company rents from so that it can conduct its business. Due to the higher risk of Commercial real estate, lending rates of banks and other lenders are lower and often fall in the range of 50-70%.

A) In UK we have regulartions designed to protect investors, so if they manage to get a listing on LSE I'm sure they are OK. However there are a HUGE number of con-merchants and rip-off artists out there trying to suck people into worthless 'investments' .. and one way to do this is via "depository receipts" .. so excuse me for being a bit cynical, but "no thanks, at any price" :-)

A) It seems that Investment corridor is an atempt towards area development along the hinterland of a major road/ rail/ transport network initiated by local bodoes/State govt.s. One example; Improving the railroad for freight and passenger service drives the selection of projects for NCRR's Capital Investment Program. The strength of the state's rail transportation infrastructure depends on the quality of rail, the width and height of bridges, the technology in signaling equipment and the capacity of the corridor to serve increasing demands for more trains. NCRR works with the North Carolina Department of Transportation, Norfolk Southern Railway and the communities through which it extends to select those projects that will have the most beneficial impact on the state's economy. Another example: The intent of this project is to develop a conceptual framework for evaluating competing corridor investment projects in order to determine those projects that most improve transportation-related well-being within the limits of resources available. The framework must be able to incorporate and organize contributions to and deductions from well-being that are both monetary and non-monetary. Those who will benefit from this research, include the residents of Missouri, as well as the other states who make up the Midwest Transportation Consortium, which are Iowa, Kansas and Nebraska, and ultimately, the nation. A critical component of the framework must be the information needs that feed decision-making, particularly in the areas of remote sensing and geographic information systems (GIS) that respond to the spatial nature of transportation projects and their impacts. Project Methodology We are utilizing the structure of an Advisory group and individual focus groups to identify and describe transportation impacts on well-being (e.g. economic development, travel time, access, safety, environmental quality, neighborhoods). Focus groups will represent various perspectives on transportation investment utility Example 3: The Muhimbili University College of Health Sciences (MUCHS) will soon start an investment corridor on 3,800- acre pieces of land it has acquired in Dar es Salaam and Coast regions. The land is at Kwembe-Kati, in Kinondoni, Dar es Salaam Region and Kisopwa/ Mloganzila in Kisarawe District, Coast Region. MUCHS Director of Planning and Development Professor David Ngassapa said yesterday in Dar es Salaam that the planned investment corridor would have a modern medicine manufacturing factory. The local transit agency’s Long Range Transit Master Plan and the City of Fresno’s 2025 General Plan identify four major transit corridors that could potentially support the implementation of high-capacity transit service in the future. These are Blackstone Avenue, Shaw Avenue, Cedar Avenue, and Ventura/Kings Canyon. The objective of this project, the Alternative Mass Transportation Pre-Major Investment Study, is to determine which of these four corridors should be the highest priority for potential transit investments, the cost associated with the alternatives, and if there is adequate community support to justify further analysis up to and including the funding of a comprehensive Major Investment Study. To this end, Community Design + Architecture studied land use patterns along each of the corridors. CD+A also conducted an analysis of existing land use and transportation policies to determine whether they are supportive of high capacity transit (HCT) services. A) I would strongly suggest arranging a meeting with a financial adviser. There are many different options for investing for a child's education as well as your own retirement. They will be able to help you through the whole process, and many that are outside a bank, manage your account and require that you meet certain expectations; such as depositing a certain amount each month, contacting them with any concerns or problems, keeping them informed with monthly statements and the such.

A) be very careful, turkey as a very weak economy, another earthquake or rioting and their economy would take a pounding. what would your property be worth then. if i was you i would look for a safer prospect.

A) i wouldnt listern to the bad points you hear, remember every story has two sides. i believe its a great investment plan for you. property is rising in turkey every year, just last year alone it rose by 50% and in the next two to three years its ment to have risen by 100%. so just think of how much the value of your property will have risen by in 10 years. and if turkey does join the eu then you know the country will gain economical stableness. so i think the only thing you have to worry about investing in turkey is that once your in your property you will not want to return back home.

Land Investment Comanies - Is there a regulator?

A) Criminals often use names of real Companies - and many real Companies have multiple offices - if you can find the 'registered' head office address you could phone them & ask if they have a branch at the address given ... More important is to pay attention during the interview ... If he is told to report to the back door during lunch time (or after normal working hours) and it's obvious the 'Manager' is using some-one else's office, start to worry ... also if the 'For Sale' signs are up outside the Offices - or the Car Park and all the other desks/offices are empty ... Other bad signs are unmanned Reception desks, phones ringing off the hook and harried staff shouting at 'customers' down phones...

A) Anwser is D. How you solve it.... 27300 cash saving is a REAL cash income. 15500 depreciation is a non-real cash expense. You pay tax only on you profits, and depreciation is an expense which is already paid in the past. So this is the solution. 27300 - 15500 = 11800 11800 is the amount declared for taxes. 11800 x 30% (taxes) = 3540. 3540 is the taxes you pay. 27300 - 3540 = 23760. Bottom line is.... you pay taxes only for revenues minus expenses.... here.. cash saving is a revenue and depreciation is an expense. But depreciation is reported expense, this is why you don't loose money when you put it on financial report.

A) If she has an account with money in it, she can just write checks. Even if its 500 businesses. More often people first figure out or guess that the second business will have some profit. If the first business is profitable, then you bring the business plan to a bank and borrow the money. Go slow but if and when you can count on 20 or 30% profit, start numbers 3 through 5 the next year. Then you salt away some of the profits and retire when or if you want to.

A) Gosh, I hope you aren't just starting to plan for retirement. Unless you were planning on working till you are 90. Without risk there is little chance for reward. You can open a roth IRA as a CD and have it be guaranteed; problem is you wont get a decent rate of return. You can go with a Bond fund and get 6% rate of return as an average; again, not much better than a CD and a little more risk. Go with a stock fund and, if history holds, average 11% a year. So the risk is not having money in retirement and eating dog food, or getting aggressive ASAP. It doesn't matter which house you put the money in. Vanguard is probably the lowest costing mutual fund company out there, Price not too far behind. The issue you should be concerned with is what to invest in and what your objectives are. A) It depends on what you're looking for. If you're looking for a long term investment, I'd probably find a couple mutual funds. It also depends on how much risk you want to take. Your highest returns would probably be in stocks but they are also your highest risk. You could pick maybe an aggressive mutual fund and another one with less risk, like a growth fund. Of course, there are always CD's and Money Market accounts but the return on them is not likely to be as high. But they will be insured by the FDIC and your return is guaranteed. Do some research on Mutual Funds, CD's, Money Market accounts and even stocks. Decide what you want from the money, long term investment, high risk, low risk, short term gain, long term gain. Then make a decision on what you feel is the best investment for you. No two people are alike so it's really hard to tell someone they absolutely should be in one investment or another.
